O Salvation
It occured to me, and it might be out there somewhere, that we haven't started worshiping our technology. I know other sci-fi has talked about it. In Battletech, Comstar (think interstellar Ma Bell) and it's later splinter group Word of Blake, had superstious prayers to the machines they worked on or used, thanking them for their continued operation.
I bring this up because I saw something this past afternoon that make me think we're not far off. Driving back to work after lunch -and after waiting 10 minutes at a railroad crossing- saw a car, dead in the turning lane of an intersection. Both it's occupants sitting in it, hood up and hazard lights flashing. Probably dissapointed that it was broken where it probably had been working seemingly fine earlier. It went from being this mode of transportation to a big hunk of steel, plastic, and rubber that they couldn't abandon for help, or even move out of the way. It stopped so they stopped. Helpless.
Sure the hood was up, but obviously they didn't know how to fix the problem. If not for our scientific civilization, mechanics would probably equal a priest or monk able to disenchant the broken vehicle.
Nothing too important. Just makes me wonder how the middle ages would have been if we could just randomly give them techology. Hah, or early humanity with lighters or suvs.
"Ugh, Krug like 2 mile per gal-lon. What mile?"
